28 Nov 2007 - Yarm School at the HMC Championships
This season's HMC tournament saw a much better turn out than in recent years. Switching from a weekend to a week day seemed to make all of the difference. Q.E.G.S. (Wakefield) were the hosts and they did a magnificent job (as usual!).
As usual, Yarm had a team in both sections.
Our Under-11 team, led by Dhruv, was strong. The captain set a fine example, winning five games from seven and this was matched by most of the team. Chris Baczkowski went one better, with six wins.
Harry Bean, Charles Guthrie and Jack Waller completed the team line-up and they all helped Yarm take a very creditable third place. R.G.S. were the champions and Q.E.G.S. held second, narrowly ahead of Yarm.
Our Under-9 started well and were in contention for a top place all the way until the final round. Then they tired and ended up just missing out on third place.
Edward Anderson was the top scorer for the team, with four wins and draw. Michael Hopkins matched this fantastic score on the reserve board. The rest of the points were shared more or less equally between the team, which consisted of Arjun Tapasvi, Jake Gordon, Katie Anderson and James Waller.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and some will still be young enough to return next year!
